The Zwartkop Country Club is a welcoming institutionin Pretoria, Gauteng boasting a widerange of exceptional facilities. It is family-run affair with an intimate,friendly vibe and a long history. In short, a golf course doesn’t begin todescribe it, although it’s a good place to start.
The course at Zwartkop is an 18-hole parklands course, expertlymaintained and lined with leafy trees.There is little better than hitting the greens on a sunny day, when the vibrantblue sky contrasts with the almost luminescent green of the course, remindingone just how happy a place our world can be. On 9 of the holes, the Hennops River comes into play andthroughout the course birds can be seenand heard chirping away.
The club, which was initially established in 1933, boasts numerousother facilities too, including a drivingrange, bistro and lounge, halfway house and a pro shop. The shop stocks avariety of well-known golfing brands at reasonable prices and also has a range of equipment available for hire.
If golf is not entirely up your ally, thereare many other facilities available, some of them a far cry from sportaltogether, the spa and hair salon,for example, both of which are available to visitors and members. There is alsoa gym for a different type ofworkout.
Zwartkop Club is over 80 years old and in that time has built up a reputation as one of the most prestigious clubs inPretoria. It was initially built onthe original Zwartkop farm and wasowned by Iscor. As a result most of its members were Iscor employees.However, during the war, the club took a bit of a dive and Iscor later sold it,and through a series of events it came into the hands of Dale Hayes and hisfamily. Today it is open to anyone and is runwith passion and care, which is evident to all who set foot on the clubgrounds.
