Alldays Unterkünfte
Alldays is a very small settlement in South Africa’s northern-most province, Limpopo. The town, which is set in typical bushveld surroundings, has a population of little more than 2000. The town is close to many nature reserves and heritage sites and offers a wide range of activities nearby. While tourism obviously plays a role in the area’s economy, it is not the only role-player.
Alldays was once a diamond-mining hot-spot and is indeed still home to the Venetia Diamond Mine. The Venetia Mine is significant for being one of De Beers’ 6 remaining diamond mines in South Africa, as a result, a percentage of Alldays’ visitors are employed in the industry. The rest come to get a taste of the picture book ‘Africa’.
The area generally experiences a dry, sunny climate, which can get very hot at times. In the summer months the afternoons are interrupted by short rain storms. The specific conditions support arid bushveld with many mopane trees.
Alldays is situated close to the Venetia Limpopo Nature Reserve which is owned by De Beers and home to 400 bird species and many mammals such as lion, elephant and the elusive African wild dog. Adjacent to the reserve you’ll find the Mapungubwe National Park, which boasts Mapungubwe Hill, a World Heritage site where the remains of a settlement belonging to advanced Africa’s iron-age people can be found.
The Blouberg Mountain Range, which surrounds Alldays, is popular among hikers and rock climbers, while the giant baobab tree at Bakleikraal, with its 21 metre circumference is an iconic African sight not to be missed.
Alldays, which is also a citrus farming region, lies within a short distance from major settlements like Polokwane and Johannesburg.
