Kameeldrift East Unterkünfte
Kameeldrift East is located in Gauteng in the interior of South Africa. It is only a short drive from Pretoria but offers an escape from the stresses and general bustle of city life which will have you believing it is much further from an urban centre than it really is. Kameeldrift East is a largely rural area and acts as a small hub of the surrounding farming communities.
Kameeldrift can be reached within 20 minutes of leaving Pretoria and is located north east of the city. You’ll find it just north of the historic mining town of Cullinan and occupies an area between the N1 and N4 highways.
There isn’t terribly much to do in Kameeldrift East, but then that is not why you go there. If however your desire to get out and explore is very strong, you can start by visiting Cullinan, the town where one of the largest rough diamonds in the world was unearthed. Today Oak Street in Cullinan is a living museum, with preserved gardens and architecture harking back to the heyday of the town’s diamond-mining era.
The Roodeplaat Dam Nature Reserve is also close by where you can sit in the bird hides observing the birdlife or take part in water sports and canoeing on the north end of the dam. For a totally different experience you can always drive into Pretoria to get a city fix.
The attraction of Kameeldrift East however is its rural, bushveld feel. Staying in the area invariably means you will find yourself on a guest farm or lodge and the chances are good that you will be treated to birdlife in the garden and maybe even a few buck species and small mammals too. The area is quiet and life is slow. It is the perfect place to claim a patch of grass in the sun and settle in for a few hours of reading.
