Lambert's Bay Unterkünfte
Lambert’s Bay, also known as the diamond of the West Coast, is picturesque village roughly 2.5 hours from Cape Town. It owes its existence to the fishing trade, still the town’s major economic contributor. A visit to Lambert’s Bay is appealing for a number of reasons, but holds a special draw card for birders.
Lambert’s Bay can be reached either by the R27 which takes you along the coast, or by the N7 which takes you through the West Coast farmlands. Upon arrival at this little town you will not be disappointed. Seafood-lovers will be happy to know that that Lambert’s Bay is known as the crayfish mecca of South Africa and the annual Crayfish Festival is hosted by the town in honour of this crustacean.
Lambert’s Bay has grown in popularity over the years given the town’s moderate, year-round climate. It makes the town’s many outdoor activities accessible and fun throughout the year. A particularly significant attraction requiring good weather is Lambert’s Bay’s Bird Island. The island is a protected area and one of only 6 breeding sites, world-wide, for the Cape gannet. It is also home to the endangered African penguin, cormorant species and seals. The island lies 100 metres off shore but can be reached by foot via a breakwater. The reserve offers a visitors’ centre and a look-out deck.
With it’s growing popularity, a number of superb hotels have opened up all over the town, catering to every taste and budget.
While attractions like the outdoor seafood restaurant, Muisboskerm and the scenic drive up to Leipoldtville and back through other small fishing villages can be undertaken year-round, there is good reason to visit the town during spring (from July to September). Providing the nature plays ball, this time of year brings on a carpet of wild flowers as well as visiting Southern right whales which breed and calf in the protected bay.
Those wishing to see the whales can do so either from the land or, for the slightly more adventurous, from a chartered boat. On whale-watching expeditions, in and out of season, dolphins such as the Heaviside and Dusky dolphin are often spotted.
As you can see, Lambert’s Bay offers plenty of attractions for those wishing to discover more about nature. For the easy going, Lambert’s Bay is a relaxing, quaint seaside town and the ideal place to curl up with an interesting read.

Lambert's Bay
Lamberts Bay was a friendly town, everyone greeted us, loved the little curio shops, beautiful clean beaches and blue ocean. Unfortunately the Bird island was closed and has been closed since June and only re-opening end November - this was not advertised anywhere so many visitors disappointed. Otherwise we had a fabulous restful holiday.

Lambert's Bay
Quaint little seaside village, with a very friendly community, lovely wide open spaces, the sun and sea for ultimate relaxation, and delicious foods. I love the entertainment park at the beach, with the palm trees and braai facilities seating accommodation - nice place to just "hang out".
Lambert'S Bay will definitely see us again soon!
