Lyttelton Unterkünfte
Lyttelton refers to a large suburb in the far eastern part of Centurion. It is close to the centre of Centurion and is constituted by a number of sub-suburbs such as Lyttelton Hoewes and Lyttleton Manor. It borders Waterkloof Ridge and Clubview and is neatly tucked between 3 major transport links, namely the N14, N1 and R21.
The city of Centurion was for many years seen as a part of the larger city of Pretoria, and given the many small-holdings and comparatively sleepy pace of life, it was often written off as simply drowsy arm of the main city. However, post 1994, development in Centurion took off and these days there are plenty of big businesses who have their headquarters there. The Centurion Aerospace Village, which is modelled on the local automotive industry, is a good example of this trend and mirrors large industrial developments overseas too such as Silicon Valley in California or Toulous in France.
Centurion also has some non-business orientated points of interest, all of which are easily accessible from Lyttleton. It is home for example, to two air force bases, the Swartkop Air Force Base and the Waterkloof Air Force Base. It is also home to the South African Air Force Museum, which documents all manner of memorabilia related to the air force, from pilots’ badges to decommissioned aircraft and even relocated memorial stones.
For a nature fix, the Rietvlei Nature Reserve (home to the Rietvlei Dam) is located within an easy driving distance of Lyttelton and is a great place to visit if you like fishing, bird watching, hiking and/or game viewing.
