Madikwe Accommodatie
The name ‘Madikwe’ refers to the game reserve which lies in a beautiful region of the North West province of South Africa. The protected area, which totals more than 70 000 hectares, reaches as far as the Botswana border and is only a three hour drive from Johannesburg and Pretoria.
The Madikwe Game Reserve is the fifth largest park in South Africa. It is a special place for a number of reasons. It lies in a transition zone of the Kalahari, attracting many rare, fascinating creatures. Furthermore, it is considered the best conservation area in Africa, harbouring ‘The Big Five’ and numerous types of game. Today the park functions as a joint effort between the state, the community and the private sector.
Visitors to the large reserve are obliged to stay in one of the lodges within the parks boundaries as there are no facilities for day visitors. This shouldn’t be a problem though as a night’s stay in Madikwe is characterised by the relaxing thrum of nocturnal life.
Within the reserve there are a number of private game lodges each offering its own unique style and ambiance. However, what they have in common is luxury from head-to-toe and fully-inclusive holiday packages. If you stay at one of Madikwe’s lodges, you will most likely be treated to a private suite with a panoramic view of the surrounding bush. If you decide to embark on a game drive, you’ll get the opportunity to spot some of the 300 plus mammal species and over 300 bird species. You will also get to marvel at the stunning landscape which consists of open plains of grasslands and woodlands. These terrains are interrupted by the Tweedepoort Mountains and dotted with inselbergs (big rocky hills).
