Morningside (JHB) Verblyf
Morningside is a quiet, leafy suburb despite being a stone’s throw away from bustling Sandton in the heart of northern Johannesburg, Gauteng. The area is divided by Rivonia Road, a major thoroughfare in northern parts of the city.
This affluent, characterful suburb is especially popular because of its proximity to Joburg’s largest financial district. It consists of a smattering of newer, secure complexes as well as older post-war houses. When Morningside was first established, it was a rural area outside of the main city, where open fields were home to livestock and there was a big equestrian community. Today though, it is a well-developed residential area, surrounded by other similar suburbs.
The most obvious advantage to staying in Morningside is its central location, close to the hub of Sandton, full as it is of businesses, shopping opportunities and well-known locations such as Nelson Mandela Square (with all its restaurants) and the Sandton Convention Centre. There are other points of interest in the suburb too though.
The Outspan Bird Sanctuary is situated on the banks of the Outspan Spruit. The sanctuary offers close to 2 hectares of peace and quiet for both birds and visitors wanting to take a nature walk or just needing a place to sit and relax away from the frenetic city outside.
Within Morningside itself, The Village Walk boasts a range of very good restaurants in a pleasing setting. Morningside Shopping Centre likewise offers a satisfying shopping experience on your doorstep.
There are opportunities for golf enthusiasts too at the River Club Golf Course and the Woodmead Driving Range.
