Robertson Verblyf

Just 2 hours from Cape Town along the N1 highway, you’ll come across the pretty little town of Robertson. Apart from its ease of accessibility and its stunning location, Robertson offers plenty to do for the inquisitive traveller as well as providing a delightful ambience for those who prefer a more sedentary getaway.

The town is situated in the Breede River Valley, just outside of Worcester. It is surrounded by mountains which provide a calming backdrop, while the river ensures the valley is fertile and has contributed greatly to the area’s agriculture.

In Robertson’s early days, the town relied on the cultivation of fruit for its industry, which was later replaced with ostrich farming when it became apparent that ostrich feathers were saleable items. Today however, the region is dotted with wine estates, including some of South Africa’s most well-established wine brands. The wine industry here not only provides a pleasant activity in which to lazily indulge on a Saturday, but perfectly complements the town’s foodie scene, with many of the wine farms hosting award-winning restaurants, and many of the town’s restaurants offering superb wines.

For a more relaxed take on food there is a weekly farmers’ market, and if you really want to get in touch with the earth and nature, the Breede River offers the perfect place to cool off on a hot summer day, and is also a popular water way for canoeists. Meanwhile the surrounding mountains are perfect for hiking or mountain-biking. Hard core adrenaline junkies will be glad to know that Robertson is, unexpectedly, a popular parachuting location too.
