Sea Point is a well-loved, affluent suburb of Cape Town for more reasons than one. It has a great, convenient position within the city, offers beautiful views, is home to a broad spectrum of people and has numerous activities to partake in. Visitors to Cape Town wanting to experience a diverse, bubbly suburb which is close to many of Cape Town’s attractions should seriously consider Sea Point.
The fact that it is nestled between Signal Hill and the Atlantic Ocean means that whichever way you look in Sea Point you are greeted by fantastic scenery. Furthermore, you will never be more than a hop skip and a jump away from other popular parts of the city.
For starters, the Victoria and Alfred Waterfront, a Cape Town icon, can be reached within 5 minutes, as can Cape Town’s bustling, creative CBD. The base of Table Mountain is also easily accessible as is the trendy strip of Camps Bay bars and restaurants and of course its sandy beach.
Sea Point itself has lots to offer too. Mainly a residential area, properties on the mountain side tend to be closely-packed houses, while towards the beach front apartment blocks dominate. Guesthouses and Bed & Breakfasts are more likely to be found on the mountain slopes, while self-catering apartments and hotels are found towards the beach front.
One of the characteristics which makes Sea Point so popular is the diversity of people to be found there. It is a melting pot of Cape Town locals, expats and international travellers. Many of these people are drawn to the lifestyle offered by this neighbourhood.
In the early mornings and late afternoons the promenade, which runs the length of the Sea Point beach front, is buzzing with walkers, joggers and people just taking in the views. There are also parks and outdoor gyms, and once you are done with the outdoor activities, you can pop into one of the restaurants or bars which populate Main Road and Beach Road. There are even a few nightclubs if things get really rowdy.
Sea Point provides Cape Town visitors with all the best the city has to offer and thus makes a good base for a holiday in Cape Town.
