Throughout the week, the street is packed with night revellers, both tourists looking to explore Cape Town nightlife and locals looking to forget about work stresses.
While there is a lot to see and do in the area, Tamboerskloof is renowned for its views of the mountainside, particularly Signal Hill and Lion's Head.
If you're looking to engage in the nighttime festivities but aren't looking for a party setting, a quick walk or an even faster drive will get you to Kloof Street; otherwise known as the 'restaurant mile'. Walk down the street and pick between a diverse array of restaurants from the famous Hudson's Eatery to the popular Hipster hotspot, 'Yours Truly'. If you aren't looking for food, take a look at the art galleries, second-hand books shops or boutique stores lining the streets.
Outdoorsmen looking to embark on mountain climbing should walk to the top of Lion's Head. While a tenuous journey for the height conscious, it is for the most part, a fairly manageable climb. Be prepared to clamber up steep rocks and manoeuvre your way up ladders before reaching Lion's Head. The trek takes you 90-minutes in total, but the mesmerising views from the top is worth the bit of exercise.
Every Saturday, locals look forward to the Oranjezicht City Farm – a non-profit market that is run by members of the community. Their mission to provide residents with fresh, organic produce to promote a healthier eating style. While individuals go there for the food, it is also an ideal place to meet up with friends while enjoying some soothing, Saturday morning music performances.
