Barrydale in Bloom
Remember the sun? Of course you do, we live in Cape Town and the sun shines even in winter. Well, with spring officially underway the flowers are out in full bloom in Barrydale, a village on the border of the Overberg and Klein Karoo region. Our annual flower festival is something you have to see to believe and it turns to face the sun on the 13th & 14th October 2018.
Barrydale is only three hours away from Cape Town, and is a charming place for a relaxing weekend away. The festival is centred around the gardens of Barrydale (and Smitsville) and include everything from small front gardens to lovely rose gardens and indigenous, water wise gardens. For one weekend Barrydale and the neighbouring villages blossom with activity.
Meander around the stunning gardens, enjoying the flora and the fauna, at your leisure between the hours of 10am and 4pm on both festival days. The locals are incredibly welcoming and really excited for visitors to enjoy the gardens they work so hard at growing and nurturing. This unique festival is a fresh take on the flower shows we typically see in the city, and gives you the perfect excuse to escape the urban bustle for the weekend!
On Saturday, 13 October 2018 there is also a craft fair happening with something on offer for the whole family. You can peruse the stalls and take home all kinds of homemade goodies made by the lovely locals – there will be everything - delicious sweet treats and arts and crafts. When you get a little peckish be sure to stop by the stunning Tea Room, which will be open for the whole weekend, and will have plenty of yummy homemade delights on offer. What’s more, proceeds from the sales at the Tea Room will go to the local hospice in Barrydale.
