Cape Town Sixes Cricket & Cultural Festival 2017
If you and your friends are looking to test out your back-of-the-yard cricket skills, then don't miss out on the next instalment of the Cape Town Sixes and Cultural Festival. The two-day festival takes place on 18-19 Feb 2017 at the Green Point Cricket Club in Green Point.
This amateur cricket event encourages you to join in on the action by inviting you and your sports mad friends to pick a cricket league that best suits your skills and experience. Whether you play the sport for fun or like to take part in a competitive fashion, there is a league suited to the needs of your team. Each team will play four matches, and depending on how well you do, have the opportunity to play in the semi-finals and finals.
If, however, your team is knocked out early, there is still plenty to do and eat during the event. Foodies can enjoy a vast array of delicious culinary dishes, gin, beers and wines from the International Food Village, and the food is affordable so don't worry about digging too deeply into your pocket.
There will also be live entertainment happening throughout the event, with the festival culminating with a special music concert on Sunday that will feature all your local favourites - think Jimmy Nevis, Mango Groove, The Kiffness and Rory Elliot.
While full of fun and friendly competition, the festival gives back to the community too. Having partnered up with foundations like 'Better than me' and the 'Cricket School of Excellence', the organisers have created their own CSI initiative called #Hitpovertyforasix. The aims of this initiative are to bring disadvantaged children from various townships and introduce them to the joys of cricket through hosting clinics. If you're looking to get more involved in social development or learn more about various initiatives in and around Cape Town, have a talk to with the various foundations who will be attending, such as Bridges for Music, Faithful to Nature, Heart Capital, Ignite Hope, CHIPS and Bigger Than Me.
