Feast of the Grape 2016 - 5
Kick off your shoes for a weekend of squishing and stomping at Durbanville Valley's Feast of the Grape 2016. The festival will be hosted at the picturesque D’Aria wine farm where twelve esteemed wine estates will be welcoming in the harvest season. The two-day event is set to take place on the 27 and 28 February 2016 and promises to be a weekend of fine wines, good food, tutored wine tastings, and for those who aren't afraid of getting their feet a bit mucky, the unique experience of wine stomping.
The twelve wineries who will be showcasing their acclaimed varietals include the following: Altydgedacht Wine Estate, Bloemendal Wine Estate, D'aria Winery, De Grendel, Diemersdal Wine Estate, Durbanville Hills Wine, Hillcrest Estate, Klein Roosboom Boutique Winery, Meerendal Wine Estate, Nitida Phizante Kraal Wines and Signal Gun. In between sampling wines and gaining invaluable knowledge from expert winemakers, food fundies can tuck into a plate of harvest-inspired, festival friendly cuisine, carefully selected to complement the wines on offer.
If you're a wine aficionado looking to learn a little more about the fermented grape, take part in a series of intimate wine tastings. These master classes are taught by expert winemakers who'll be divulging their knowledge on the wines of the valley. While lessons are free of charge, space is limited so be sure to book now in order to avoid disappointment.
Of course, an undeniable highlight of the event is the grape-stomping. Those who dare can kick off their shoes, roll up their sleeves and stomp around in buckets of fermented grapes. Germaphobes can be rest assured in knowing that the grape stomping is a perfectly hygienic activity! While a fun, stress-relieving activity, it is also a worthwhile cause. All proceeds made will go to the region's various charities.
If you're unsure of whether or not your should bring your kids along to Feast of the Grape, a designated kids zone will keep your young ones busy while you indulge in wine drinking. They can whizz around on a go-kart around a makeshift track, play a game of soccer on the inflatable field, or even join in on the grape stomping festivities.
The event will be open from 11am to 7pm on Saturday 27 February and 11am to 6pm on Sunday 28 February.
