The International Polo Series 2014
The BMW International Polo Series is a partnership between the SA Polo Association and BMW South Africa and is played once a year in Durban and Johannesburg.
This year, the second test series of the tournament will be held at the Waterfall Polo Estate in Sunninghill, Johannesburg on the 14th of September 2014.
This year's tournament will see the South African Polo team competing against the USA. The American team has participated in this series five times in the past, winning three of tests. The last time that the USA competed against SA in this series was in 2002, so it will be interesting so these two teams face off in this series again after 12 years.
The US team this year includes the internationally acclaimed polo player Memo Gracida whose polo career includes having set several records. He has won the most U.S. Opens ever (he has won 16) and he has held the title of American 10-goaler for 21 consecutive years.
The team also includes Scott Devon, patron of the Catamount Team which participates in high goal polo in the US, Mike Azarro, an American professional polo player from Texas who also held polo’s highest handicap of 10 goals for over 10 years and Tomas Collingwood.
The South African team was recently announced and includes 21 players including Davey Evans , Dirk Van Reenen, Tom de Bruin and Gareth Evans.
Both teams are highly experienced and formidable, which should make for a thrilling game.
Visitors can picnic in the grounds or buy from the various food and beverage stands which will be available. There will also be a jumping castle on site for the kids.
