The Macufe Festival 2017
The Macufe Festival is a nine-day Mangaung African Cultural Festival, showcasing the best African and international talent. It is essentially Bloemfontein’s answer to cultural festivals, in line with that of the Klein Karoo National Arts Festival in Oudtshoorn or the Aardklop Festival in Potchefstroom. It aims to be the biggest, most culturally diverse showcasing of African Arts and Culture in the world.
In 2017, the much anticipated event will be taking place from 30 September - 8 October at various locations aound Bloemfontein.
2015's attendees were treated to the sounds of the music maestros, 'Flavour and Kunle'. The dynamic duo wow'ed audiences with their deep-rooted African sounds. Other local artists who featured in the 2015 festival included the likes of Victor Kgantlape, Mafikizolo, Tshepo Tshola, Letta Mbulu, Caiphus Semenya, Unathi, The Soil and many others.
The Macufe Festival is an initiative of the Free State Provincial Government and was developed with the aims of showcasing the best local and international African artists across various disciplines. This has been done by providing a quality professional service through an extensive and structured marketing campaign as well as utilizing the multi-skilled professional staff, established infrastructure and resources at its disposal.
The festival is spread out over ten days and during this time, attendees from all corners of the globe will have a chance to experience some of the most interesting aspects of African culture. There will be art, music, theatre, crafts and even sport exhibitions at venues throughout the city of Bloemfontein. Tickets will be sold at the door for individual events.
With more than 10 years running, the Macufe Festival continues to prove to that Bloemfontein’s got culture too!
