Montagu National Youth Arts Festival 2016
The Montagu National Youth Arts Festival is turning 21 this year! The ten-day event, which happens every year in the beautiful setting of Montagu, will run from 10 August-20 August 2016.
The vision for this year’s festivities remains clear - to present with dedication, passion and support a competitive platform for youth performing and visual arts.
Events for the festival include art exhibitions and photography exhibitions, piano recitals, choir performances, craft and puppetry shows, drama, poetry and literature recitals and more. It is also one of the few youth festivals in South Africa that incorporates all the different art forms into one creative outlet.
The festival sources talent primarily from Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Mossel Bay and George and across the Western Cape Region. The entire event is run by the NPO- RAD Foundation (Rural Arts Development programme), and a portion of the entry fee will go toward identifying and assisting performance artists who are unable to compete because of financial constraints.
Additional categories featured at the 2016 event include the following:
- Best drama poster
- Edited photographs
- Craft and puppetry
- Dance with a message
- Spoken poetry
If you are attending or participating in this festival, take advantage of the tourist specials offered by the Museum, Joubert House, Montagu Museum Gallery and Montagu Dried Fruit and Guano Caves during the festival.
