Accommodation near Colesburg Golf Club
The Colesberg Golf Club lies on the outskirts of Colesberg in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa. The town lies at the intersection of the N1 and N9 highways which puts it right on the main Cape Town - Johannesburg route and makes it ideal as an overnight stop on the long journey. If you are golfing-inclined, the town's golf club is a nice bonus.
The Colesberg Golf Club is a small club, not too surprising since the town's total population is less than 20 000. Never-the-less, it is a well-equipped facility and many visitors will appreciate the clear blue skies and the vast open spaces which characterise the Karoo landscape in which Colesberg is located.
The course is officially a parkland-style course, although being situated in a semi-arid region of the country means that the trees, shrubs and flowers which usually populate a parkland course are a bit thin on the ground. That being said though, the Karoo vegetation is picturesque in its own, stark way, and the Coleskop Koppie (little hill), also known as Towerberg or Magic Mountain, is a distinct feature of the town and the golf course.
The Colesberg Golf Club has a 9-hole course and also boasts a driving range, putting green and clubhouse. The clubhouse in turn has locker rooms, function facilities and a bar, where golfers can wind down after a morning or afternoon on the course, while enjoying a cold beer.
The next time you pass Colesberg, know that there is more to the area than sheep and shrubs and if you feel like it, even stop for a game of golf, as visitors are welcome on any day of the week.
