Baviaanskloof
The Baviaanskloof is close to my heart. It is the 3rd time in a row that we stay over for two days on our way back home from Sedgefield. This somehow makes the end of our holiday a lot better. The Baviaanskloof has a special magic. All these beautiful mountains and the river crossing the road so many times...........we continuously stop to splash our feet in this bright clear water, looking to see how many tortoises we can see seeking the same pleasure. We also saw some Kudu and Njala in the reserve this time, we were quite surprised. We stop at a farm stall and were treated to the best roosterkoek fresh from the coals.......what a treat! This time it was very hot but I believe two days after we left, the Baviaanskloof had beautiful rain......just what I prayed for! This is a place my husband and I got to love and we will be back!

Baviaanskloof is beautiful. The day we drove through the kloof from Glencoe to Willomore we were the only vehicle in the park and that was so nice - quiet, peaceful and all the animals were out grazing. We saw a lot: buffalo, bushbuck, kudus, hartebeest, baboons and we drove for kilometers on fresh tracks of a black Rhino but we weren't lucky enough to see it. We did a lot of birding and I enjoyed all the plants that were flowering. We will visit Baviaans again.

Really enjoyed Baviaanskloof, beautiful scenery! If we lived in the Cape, this would be a regular weekend getaway.

Baviaanskloof is not a place to traverse only. I would recommend a two nights stay. Although the Willowmore appears more attractive and offers a variety of smaller and bigger valleys within the Kloof the Cambria area offers good 4x4 side trips and Patensie has more infrastructure.
The main attraction is the Baviaanskloof trail area which in hindsight is fairly easy to drive and which offers several spectacular views. Due to many drifts and mainly green vegetation it is a bit more varied than "The Hell" between Oudshoorn and Prince Albert.
Apart from beautiful views you can do hiking as well as kloofing. You could stay on a bigger farm or self-catering cottage or camp and will be rewarded with fresh air, very little noise, a very starry night sky and get a good nights sleep. Without cellphone reception you can ignore the world outside and totally relax.
If in a hurry it would be possible to do a round trip from any place between Knysna and Jeffrey's Bay in a day but than you would want to return to Baviaanskloof to linger. To capture the beautiful impressions you get in morning and afternoon light require at least one overnight stay.
