Garsfontein Verblyf

Garsfontein is a suburb of Pretoria, one of Gauteng’s 2 largest cities and South Africa’s administrative capital. Playing host to South Africa’s Union Buildings as well as being a hub for many business activities, the heart of the Jacaranda City (as Pretoria is sometimes known due to the abundance of Jacaranda trees) is a frenetic, high-energy place. The suburb of Garsfontein however, is the antithesis of all that.

Garsfontein is situated on the far east of the city, close to the outskirts of the large metropolis. Unlike the central business district, which is defined, as many are, by tall buildings and abundant concrete, Garsfontein’s sky line is very low and the green lawns and the many trees breath a tranquillity into the area which is noticeably absent in the heart of Pretoria.

Garsfontein is an affluent neighbourhood with well-kept houses and properties brimming with pretty gardens and outdoor ornaments. The streets are wide and the air, by virtue of the many trees, is a lot fresher than in the centre.

Garsfontein is surrounded by equally peaceful neighbourhoods such as Waterkloof, Moreletta Park and the ever-popular Faerie Glen. The closest attraction is the Faerie Glen Nature Reserve which offers not only a peaceful break from city life but also the opportunity to spot a wide variety of birds and mammals like zebra, giraffe and various antelope species. The restaurant in the reserve is an especially nice way to experience the place!

While the area may not boast oodles to do, Garsfontein does offer warm hospitality and a pleasant environment in which to relax. Furthermore, it is indeed part of the city and Pretoria Central is never too far away!
