Hibberdene Verblyf
Hibberdene is one of the many coastal towns along the KwaZulu Natal South Coast which makes up the Hibiscus Coast. In fact, the town, which lies 97 kilometres south of Durban, is seen as the gateway to this pretty stretch of coast. It is surrounded by other cute seaside towns and is the halfway mark between Scottburgh and Port Shepstone.
Hibberdene experiences the same subtropical climate which makes towns up and down the KwaZulu Natal coast popular for holiday makers and beach goers. The summers are hot and humid and the winters dry and mild. The Indian Ocean is continually fed by a warm current, ensuring that the sea temperature is inviting throughout the year. Furthermore, 4 of Hibberdene’s 5 beaches are protected by shark nets so swimming is safe.
The warm ocean temperatures support tropical life below the surface, including many rare species of fish and plants. Scuba diving is popular in Hibberdene and a number of dive charter companies in the town will happily take you out. Once underwater you stand the chance to see long-nose hawkfish and soft-sponge corals for starters.
The Hibberdene lagoon offers some freshwater fun in the form of canoeing and pedal boats and the Umzimai River is home to numerous bird species, so twitchers will be happy.
Hibberdene has 2 golf courses, a tennis club and bowling greens for your pleasure. For more hands-on, ocean-orientated adventures you can go fishing off the beach or rocks or dolphin/whale watching in a small chartered boat. There is also a ski-boat launch in Hibberdene and a small water park.
