La Mercy Beach Verblyf
The KwaZulu Natal coastline is divided into two parts, with the province’s capital, Durban acting as the boundary. The coast north of the city is the North Coast, and is also known as the Dolphin Coast for the abundance of these sea mammals which are spotted from the beaches. The area south of Durban is called the South Coast, or Hibiscus Coast. La Mercy is one of the southern-most towns on the North Coast.
It is 25 kilometres outside of Durban and is easily accessible via the N2 or M4 highways. It is flanked on either side by the larger, affluent seaside resorts of Umhlanga and Ballito. La Mercy (and its direct neighbour, Umdloti), despite being so far south on the Dolphin Coast, earns its position there, for not only is there a lot of dolphin action, but the beach is known as one of the best places for whale-watching during the KwaZulu Natal whale-watching season.
La Mercy is a quiet, unassuming village with a rich Indian heritage. It is fronted by an awe-inspiring stretch of beach, complete with golden sands and the warm Indian Ocean which is a swimmable temperature throughout the year. Furthermore, it is surrounded by a conservancy which protects the coastal dune system and the variety of life it supports.
Activities in La Mercy mimic those on offer in coastal towns up and down the KwaZulu Natal coast, and range from sea kayaking and surfing to swimming, fishing and snorkelling. Nearby you’ll find the Gateway Theatre of Shopping and the Sibaya Casino Complex is just 7 kilometres away.
