Lanseria Verblyf

The area known as Lanseria is to be found in Gauteng, north of Johannesburg’s commercial hub, Sandton and the suburb of Randburg. It is in the north west of Johannesburg, South Africa’s largest city. Lanseria, given that it is less developed, and thus less well-known, is often grouped with Randburg. However, it’s quiet, undeveloped nature is, in many respects, the characteristic which makes it an attractive place to stay.

Lanseria’s rural feel comes from the fact that much of the property around there comes in the form of smallholdings and even farms. Thus there is plenty of space and only a couple of houses smattered across the Highveld. Staying in Lanseria can often give one the sense that you are staying right in the African bush. Sitting on the deck outside your room on a guest farm for example might provide views of the yellowing veld, a small stream and a couple of thorny trees. The sound of city traffic will seem like a distant memory as will the light pollution which plagues the night sky in a large populated city.

Lanseria will give you the sense that you have escaped the rat race, however temporarily, despite being very close to Johannesburg and the amenities, attractions and activities it offers. This is perhaps Lanseria’s greatest selling point.

While Lanseria as a region of Johannesburg is not particularly well-known, many people will have heard of Lanseria Airport, a small, privately-owned airport which has regular flights from Johannesburg to Cape Town and Durban as well as international flights to Botswana. The airport is clearly another major convenience factor.

Lanseria lies between the R552, the R512 and the N14, travelling northwards you will reach Hartebeespoort Dam, favourite weekend destination for Joburgers, and travelling south east will take you to the heart of Johannesburg, all within the blink of an eye. So if you’re looking for a quiet, convenient escape, look no further than Lanseria.
