Linga Linga Verblyf
Linga Linga is a peninsula which protrudes into Inhambane Bay in Inhambane, Mozambique. The capital city of the Inhambane province shares the same name, Inhambane, and is really more of a town than a city. It lies on the southern side of the bay, almost directly opposite the Linga Linga peninsula, which forms the northern limit of the bay.
Inhambane the city, is roughly 500 kilometres north of Mozambique’s capital city, Maputo, and lies at the heart of one of Mozambique’s most popular tourist region. It is the land of coconut plantations, also known for the production of cashew nuts. When people imagine paradise, Inhambane’s coastline comes to mind. White sandy beaches, clear turquoise waters and palm trees lining the edge of the beach are what you’ll find at Linga Linga and many of its neighbours like Barra and Vilanculos.
Linga Linga is a tiny settlement which operated as a whaling station for a brief period between 1911 and 1915. The station was set up by two Norwegian companies and it was mainly humpback whales which suffered at the hands of the whalers. Today the slipway is still visible, although little else remains.
Linga Linga is the ideal getaway and the peninsula offers similar activities to those available in the surrounding resorts. These include snorkelling, deep sea fishing, exceptional diving opportunities, birding and exploring the nearby mangroves.
