Munster Verblyf
Munster is a little town on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal, South Africa. It is midway between Southbroom and the start of the Eastern Cape’s Wild Coast and lies next to Port Edward. It is a moderate walk from neighbouring Glenmore Beach, and has a section of beach itself called Glenmore Beach which causes a fair amount of confusion.
The section of Glenmore beach in Munster is one of the most beautiful beaches along this coast. The beach is a shark-protected beach that is most well-known for being a swimming and surfing bay.
The coast of Munster is made up of long untouched stretches of white sandy beach, crystal waters, lush vegetation, massive rocky outcrops and untamed waves breaking against boulders. This is the scenery you can expect to experience at the beach too.
Glenmore Beach, often the site of beauty pageants and fishing competitions, provides wonderful opportunities for rock climbing and hours of shell collecting. Furthermore, the mouth of the Intongasi River has made the beach perfect for launching boats.
Once a year, there is a flurry of activity in the otherwise tranquil bay, caused by the sardine run. This is when hundreds of thousands of sardines swim by just off the coast, followed by enormous schools of dolphins, whales, sharks, game fish and pelagic birds. In short, an unforgettable natural phenomenon that has to be seen to be believed.
Not far from Munster, located slightly inland is the Umtamvuma Nature Reserve. This nature reserve is the breeding ground for the Cape vulture, and is also home to baboons, buck, black backed jackal and monkeys. It is a thick, lush forest with plenty of birds.
Munster is an idyllic spot, especially for those with a great appreciation for nature.
