Southbroom Verblyf
Southbroom is a special town, surrounded by protected green areas, beautiful swimming beaches and the expansive Indian Ocean. It lies on the Hibiscus Coast, KwaZulu Natal’s South Coast, a stone’s throw away from the popular seaside resort towns of Margate, Ramsgate and Shelly Beach. Unlike many of the South Coast towns though, Southbroom has avoided the high rise hotel developments which seem to define this coastline more and more.
Southbroom has 4 kilometres of uninterrupted beach frontage, something its residents are very proud of, and is sandwiched comfortably between two rivers, the Mbizane and the Kaba. This set of circumstances mean that birdlife is prolific here, with pelagic birds in abundance during the annual sardine run, and many water birds to be found on the banks of the rivers, flitting between the reeds.
The town is surrounded by the Frederika Nature Preserve, the Southbroom golf course and 350 000 square metres of land zoned for conservation, meaning there is no shortage of open green spaces. Apart from the golf club other places in the town to involve yourself in some sport, is the tennis and bowls club, of course though the beach is the main attraction.
Southbroom has two swimming beaches, connected by a beautiful beach walk. Each boasts its own tidal pool too and there are a number of spots in the vicinity that will keep any snorkelers more than happy. Fishing is also a common activity in Southbroom, as it is all along the KwaZulu Natal coast.
Southbroom experiences a subtropical climate, making it the perfect destination for a seaside holiday any time of the year.
