North Beach Logement
For those of you who don’t know, Durban’s beachfront is essentially one long sandy beach, divided up by a series of piers. The Golden Mile refers to a particularly popular stretch of this beach front, containing beaches which are the most pleasant for swimming and playing on. North Beach is considered one of the best beaches on the Golden Mile.
North Beach is run by the Durban Surf Lifesaving Club. It is clean, safe and has many amenities to keep you and your family amused. It is a popular beach for surfers, body boarders and paddle skiers and the promenade behind the beach is great for skateboarders. For regular beach users, it is safe for swimming too. There are shark nets up which are checked regularly and a lifesaver on patrol.
This area is extremely tourist friendly – there are a number of swimming-pools just off the beach where small children and adults who never quite mastered the art of swimming can paddle and watch the action. There are also a number of craft stalls along the promenade where you can stock up on curios and pause to watch the ladies beading.
The promenade is of course an attraction in itself, making for lovely evening strolls or early morning jogs. Having completed the exercise component of your holiday on the promenade, you can indulge in a meal from one of the restaurants along North Beach – it is a real little restaurant hub.
Just back from the beach and promenade, you will see rows of tall buildings and within them, some of the best hotels and self-catering apartments that North Beach has to offer.With great views of the beach and sea combined with a central location, it doesn’t get much better.
