Berea (DBN) Logement
The Berea in Durban refers to a ridge of land which overlooks the city. It comprises a number of affluent Durban suburbs such as Musgrave and Upper Glenwood, these two are incidentally separated by the N3 highway. The Berea is known for large, beautiful properties which fetch a high price on the property market. This is largely due to its raised position in the North of Durban which allows one to look out over central Durban and the Indian Ocean. In fact, the Berea was once home to the most-expensive real estate in Durban, but now lies in third position after Umhlanga and Durban North.
The Berea is very desirable amongst travellers (and residents) who prefer the finer things in life. The accommodation here is exclusive, intimate and comfortable. There are also plenty of good restaurants on the Berea and many shopping facilities such as the Musgrave Shopping Centre.
Suburbs on the Berea are reasonably accessible and it is easy enough to get to a number of Durban’s attractions. The Jameson Rose Garden for example, which boasts 200 species of roses flourishing, surprisingly, in Durban’s subtropical climate, is nearby as is the Mitchell Park Zoo.
The zoo started life in 1910 as an ostrich farm but more animals were added to try and increase the farm’s revenue. Today it’s mainly home to small mammals such as duiker and racoons, and there is also a walk-through aviary. It is a great place to bring children as there is a playground and a tea room so parents and children will be happy.
Finally, the Durban Botanical Gardens, Durban’s oldest institution, is within a convenient distance from the Berea and makes for a nice stroll.

Loved it. Old world charm, close to the beach but when you are in Berea it feels like a different country. We went for walks (felt very safe) visited the local coffee shops and restaurants. Loved our stay!
