South Beach Logement
Durban, like many large cities, has many,sometimes conflicting faces, depending on which part of the city you are in.For example, Durban is at its heart a gritty port city which is also renowned for being home to the largest Indian population outside of India. However, if you go too far north, this essence of the city is significantly diluted. Not in South Beach though!
The area known as South Beach lies right on the city’s coastline, to the east of the central business district and just north of the harbour. As you may well imagine, this part of the city is a cultural hot pot with a great view of the sea and access to the beach to boot.
The harbour, which is a stone’s throw away,is not only an intriguing place to watch the never-ending goings on, but also a great launch pad for sundowner cruises. The Point Waterfront is a news development right next to South beach and is home to some fancy hotels, nice restaurants and the famous attraction uShaka Marine World – an aquarium and water park.
The city centre, which is admittedly quietat night, is the best place to grab an authentic Indian curry for lunch. To work off the calories afterwards, you can stroll along the coastal parade from uShaka, along the actual beach at South Beach as far as the Moses Mabhida Stadium, built for the FIFA World Cup and now home to the world’s highest bridge swing.
Also close to South Beach is the Greyville Racecourse and within it, the Royal Durban Golf Club. In short, South Beach is a fabulous spot to stay if you really want to get a genuine feel for Durban, KwaZulu Natal’s largest city.
