Pennington Verblyf
Pennington, with its scenic woodland setting is a small town on the South Coast of KwaZulu Natal. Located on a hill overlooking the Indian Ocean, it is separated from the beach, as many of the South Coasts towns are, by a little-used railway track. Apart from tourism, the town’s economy is supported by small sugarcane and dairy industries. The town is in fact named after a farming family, the Penningtons, who started farming in the area in the late 19th century.
Just 75 kilometres from KwaZulu Natal’s capital city, Durban, it is easily accessible via the N2 highway, and offers an easy yet completely immersive holiday experience. Much of the KwaZulu Natal coast experiences a subtropical climate, with hot, humid summers and mild winters. The Indian Ocean also experiences a warm current, ensuring that the sea temperatures are pleasant throughout the year. This, as you can imagine, creates the perfect circumstances for a beach holiday, something which Pennington is renowned for.
Apart from the long, wide golden beach, which issues anyone who steps onto it the invitation to walk as far as the eye can see, other activities are offered in the surrounding areas. There are two great golf courses in Pennington plus a driving range, and the protected coastal forest surrounding the town is a haven for various bird species and thus birders too.
Fishing, rock, surf and deep-sea varieties, is popular here, and there a number of snorkeling spots at nearby Kelso and Umdoni Point. Swimming at Pennington Beach is safe and many surfers find their groove here too. Bazley Beach nearby is a great spot for offshore windsurfing, jet-skiing and paragliding.
The opportunities for relaxation and fun are seemingly endless at Pennington.
