The Pilanesberg Game Reserve is the 4th largest reserve in South Africa and unique in that it hosts the Big 5 on the floor of an extinct volcano. The other Big 5 reserve nearby is Madikwe, while the Kgaswane (Rustenburg) Game Reserve offers a wealth of bird and buck species, plenty of hiking trails for all levels and a host of 4x4 trails too. A major draw-card for the area is that it is Malaria-free something that cannot be said for South Africa’s other game-viewing areas.

Finally, Rustenburg is a mere stone’s throw away from Sun City. With a wild water park, wave machine and casino to keep you entertained, it offers an experience worlds away from Rustenburg’s historical sites and game reserves. This may just be the hook that reels you in. Where else can you have such a broad base of experiences, from marvelling at nature to gazing at a man-made wonder, all within 30 minutes of each other?
