Die Burger Mountain Bike Challenge 2016 - 6
Die Burger MTB Challenge, which is one of the most picturesque cycling races in South Africa, takes place for the eleventh year running on 31 July 2016. The race commences from Eikestad Primary School in Stellenbosch, and an estimated 5000 riders are expected to take part this year.
The event, which is renowned for its challenging yet visually pleasing wineland routes, is held in association with the Simonsberg Conservancy. This year, athletes can pick between six mountain bike routes, all of which are catered for all levels of rider skill and experience.
For the third year, riders will have the option to participate in the 50km route which leads to the south-eastern part of this town.This trail will be an extension of the popular 30km route and although it is a longer distance than the 42km, it is a much easier ride.
The route options are:
• 15km fun ride for children and novices
• 30km fun ride for beginner riders
• 50km challenge for intermediate
• 42km fun ride for intermediate riders, but fitter riders
• 60km challenge for advanced riders
• 75km invitation race for top riders
The routes will pass through more than 50 wine farms in the area, giving riders the opportunity to tackle some of the best and most beautiful trails in the country.
At the finish line, there will be kiddies entertainment, plenty of food and drink, medals to all finishers, and a prizegiving where a bike will be given away to one lucky participant!
Entries for all the races will open at the beginning of April, and close again on Monday, 18 July 2016 or as soon as the entry limit has been reached.
