Onrus Verblyf
The little town of Onrus is located in the Overberg region of the Western Cape. It is an easy drive from Cape Town, which will have you there in less than 2 hours. Once you get there, you will be blown away by the serenity of the area and the variety of relaxing holiday activities on offer.
Onrus lies on the banks of the Onrus River (hence the name) right where the river meets the sea. This means that should take holiday there, not only will you have access to a beautiful sandy beach but also a lagoon. These two features alone provide endless opportunities from sandcastle building to surfing, beach walks, fishing and paddling in the lagoon.
The town is small with a relaxed vibe. It is the kind of place where one walks whenever possible instead of getting into a car. Despite its relaxed atmosphere though, it still provides all the necessary amenities such as a grocery store, a pharmacy and one or two great restaurants with lovely views of the sea.
Onrus is down the road from Hermanus and the Hemel en Aarde Wine Valley is not far away either. This allows those who want to explore a little further the opportunity to go wine-tasting and check out the many attractions which Hermanus has to offer, such as the Old Harbour Museum.
For those who like to keep things simple (that is car free) on their holidays, there are tidal pools to explore and if you obtain a permit, diving for crayfish is on the cards too. In season (June to September) your chances of spotting whales is very good too.
