Musgrave Verblyf
Musgrave is a suburb of Durban, the largest city in KwaZulu Natal. It is located on the Berea, a ridge to the west of Durban’s CBD and today considered the area with the 3rd highest real estate prices in Durban (after Umhlanga and Durban North). Needless to say Musgrave is an affluent area which is home to some beautiful old mansions, many of which have been converted into offices.
Musgrave is a pretty suburb, leafy and well-maintained. Furthermore, its position on the Berea means that there are vantage points which look out over the city and its leafy nature make it a little more comfortable than the city centre, which can be oppressively humid and sticky.
Musgrave is home to the Durban Botanic Gardens, Africa’s oldest botanic garden and Durban’s oldest public institution. It boasts a wide range of plant species but is specifically known for its collection of cycads.
Another Musgrave attraction is the Musgrave Shopping Centre, which has an eclectic market every Sunday, and there are two university campuses nearby on the Berea, one belonging to the Durban University of Technology and the other to the University of KwaZulu Natal.
Musgrave is separated from neighbouring Upper Glenwood by the N3 highway, a route which makes getting into the Durban CBD really quick and easy. Jumping on the freeway will take you to Durban’s Golden Mile with the promenade, uShaka Marine World and the beach in no time. Also close by is the Royal Durban Golf Club, which is unique as it lies inside the Greyville Race Course. Greyville hosts the annual Vodacom Durban July, a horse-racing event which attracts serious gamblers and fashionistas alike.
