The Buffeslpoort Valley is an extraordinarily scenic area in the Magaliesberg Mountain Range. The area lies between Pretoria in Gauteng and Rustenberg in the North West province. Accommodation in Buffeslpoort is convenient and the array of activities in the areas means you will never be in wont of things to do.
Buffelspoort accommodation is also popular due to the interesting history of the area. The Magaliesberg range is among the oldest landscapes in the world - with the mountain formed by molten lava bubbling up from the earth's core before the continent of Africa was even established.
The region was also home to the earliest humans (as the Cradle of Human Kind will attest to) and has seen numerous historical battles take place. Within the Buffelspoort Valley, the Ndebele, led by Mzilikazi, succeeded the original Batswana inhabitants and the Boers also fought the British in the area. To date there are a number of ruins and battle sites for visitors to explore.
One of the major attractions of the Buffeslpoort Valley, and why accommodation in Buffelspoort is a great choice, lies in the huge biodiversity of the area. This is the point where the bushveld savannah of northern South Africa meets the grassland highveld of South Africa's central area, and as a result, one can witness the plant and animal species which inhabit both these biomes, as well as specially adapted fauna and flora that call the deep kloofs and clean mountain streams their homes.
Activities in the Buffeslpoort Valley are highly varied but are most rewarding for those with an appreciation for the outdoors. Hiking and mountain-biking on the Magaliesberg slopes is endlessly rewarding and for the adrenaline junkies there are canopy tours, abseiling and trad rock- climbing.
The Buffelspoort Valley is home to a number of dams such as the Buffeslpoort Dam and Olifantsnek, both of which are hubs of recreational development with many self-catering cottages guest-houses and BnB's popping up to cater for fishing and water sport fanatics.
The Buffeslpoort Valley experiences summer rainfall and crisp cool winters. Bear this in mind organising your holiday.
